Description

Valuheart Heartworm tablets for Dogs (Ivermectin) is a once a month tablet used for the prevention of heartworm disease in dogs.

Directions for use

Valuheart is given once a month, year round for the prevention of heartworm disease. The usual dose of ivermectin in dogs up to 10 kg is 60 mcg -1 tablet from blue pack, for 11-20kg is 120 mcg - 1 tablet from green pack and for 21 to 40 kg is 240mcg - 1 tablet from gold pack. Dogs over 40 kg are given a combination of tablets.

Possible Side Effects

The side effects of Ivermectin are rare at the recommended dosage. Valuheart has a wide margin of safety for all sizes and breeds of dogs. It is approved for use in puppies as young as 6 weeks, small dogs regardless of weight, pregnant or breeding bitches and stud dogs. Transient diarrhoea has been observed in clinical trials after treatment of some dogs that have high circulating microfilariae.

Caution

Do not use in puppies under 6 weeks of age This medication should not be used in animals allergic to it. Heartworm testing should be performed prior to the start of prevention therapy. If the animal is off Ivermectin for 6 months or less, start the medication and test after 6 months since microfilaria, that take 6 months to mature, may result in a positive test result.
